    This Fairlane is an example of what Ford could have produced if their priority was making quality cars rather than making as much profit as they could on each unit. Top effort Jason. Fords become a good car as long as you pull them apart, reengineer them, replace the shitty crap materials Ford use, with some reasonable quality materials and then put them back together again properly. The same applies to GMs average efforts.

    Hey Jason, I've loved the Fairlane resto and can't wait for the coupe. Your footage of the Geelong meeting took me back. Dad bought a XW wagon (big block 221) from Coffey Ford in Ringwood in 1969 when I was 6 years old. (channeling Peter Anderson) The family and friends have had a succession of falcons since. My first car was a mint (baby poo mustard) XY which being a typical youth I destroyed. I wish I had looked after it. I currently have an AU that I bought new in 2002. It's ugly as fuck as AUs are, but it's growing on me. So surprised how often people admire it. I don't pretend it's up there with X series falcons but it's coming into it's own. Please keep the content coming. Cheers.

      Oh mate thanks for the newsy reply… yes I to was repulsed by the AU back in the day but you’re exactly right. They are definitely a rough diamond and are moving up in the imagination. I recall listening to an interview of a ford executive upon the AU’s release defending the design. He said “sure, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but in time people will warm to the design” lol I didn’t realize he was talking in decades. At the time he was probably thinking or hoping about months. Anyways mate, thanks for keeping me company on the journey… let’s get this coupe going aye

    The Fairlaine looks and runs like a real charmer, shame about the AC but I recall you having issues with the pipes and fittings. Hope you get it sorted soon. I loved the coupes, I remember them from back in the day when I was still young and pimply faced. I also remember seeing a lot of them with normal sized tyres in the back and they looked awful. You always had to put on super sized wheels and tyres in the back to fill in that huge rounded quarter. A while back I chanced upon a replica (down to the last nut and bolt) of the Mad Max interceptor which also had the glove box lid signed by the actors and crew of Mad Max which I managed to take pictures of. It was in a workshop getting some work done and the workshop's owner didn't want to talk about it and swore me to secrecy not to tell anyone it was there. He insisted it was a replica and not an actual movie car but it had too many movie details to be a replica and I think it was more likely to be one of several cars used in the movie especially since he was being really protective about me not telling anyone it's location at that time, that's my thought anyway.

    • @BoyAnachronism01
      @BoyAnachronism01 4 місяці тому

      Yes mate… that exact car was at the show. The glove box is still covered in signatures … I should have got a vid of it… hey FYI It’s impossible to engage a blower manually with the engine running… In the movie you see max engage the blower whilst driving for extra power. At the time, my mates used to bag those scenes saying that’s impossible. So the other day I cast a critical eye over the set up on the car. The blower isn’t connected to the pully system. That 3” belt on the blower itself is connected to an electric motor that is mounted on a somewhat rudimentary frame beneath the blower pulley. The blower bet is no longer than about 380 mm and connects to nothing else except the electric motor lol Still a cool film tho

    • @ellesmerewildwood4858
      @ellesmerewildwood4858 4 місяці тому

      @@BoyAnachronism01Yeah, when the mechanic pointed it out, I was surprised to see the blower was driven by a small electric motor and it's for that reason I still think it's actually one of the movie cars because the blower electric motor setup looks like a crappy but functional job the SFX people would do just for the movie and not what someone would do when building a replica.

    Congratulations on your wedding and of course, the competition of the Fairlane. This has been a fantastic series as you’ve shown the real world reality of a classic car restoration. Starting out with a car with previous crash damage and old dodgy repairs means you’ve got a mountain of work just to get back to ground zero before you can start the restoration proper. It’s easy to get disillusioned with a project of this magnitude but you got through the dark times and you definately deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Congrats again mate and enjoy your brand new ride. Looking forward to the coupe project.

Using a a multimeter set to current in series with your positive terminal to read the circuit current. You mentioned Pete had set you up with a blade fuse box. Took it off the road to start restoring it & well here we are (hopeless, I know - lol). It's been in dry storage for a lot of the intervening years so it's reasonable, despite a few bumps and dents and rust in all the usual places. I've been ravenously researching and honing my skills, as I have no option but to do as much of the resto myself due to a limited budget, but it should work out ok. Just need to get some more metal shaping gear & a TIG welder and I can get going. After watching your video on the new factory, I guess I'm a little north of you in the Cranbourne area, so not too far away. Hope married life is treating you well, cheers

    Congratulations not just on finishing the ZF but also on getting Married. I've really enjoyed the build and have been watching since the beginning and I'm looking forward to seeing you work on the XA Coupe and to seeing the factory. Just want to wish you and Katrina all the very best in the future, Thank you for sharing those highlights from the ceremony.

      Oh mate thank you so much for the message and ongoing input. I really appreciate your input and encouragement. It might surprise you to learn that without the feedback and motivation I receive from folk such as yourself the mission would be so much harder. Take care mate and see you in XA Coupe resto 2

    Congratulations to you and your beautiful new wife! Thanks so much for this series of videos on your ZF Fairlane. I found your channel from Mr. Pete A. I have learned so much and gained such inspiration from watching your videos. Best of luck to you and yours. And can't wait to see the next series of videos. Thanks Mate, from America.
